Earlier this month, Central Coast Poets Inc. enjoyed a festive final meeting for the year, at the Wyoming Community Centre. Members were joined by loved ones for a scrumptious spread provided by our President Elizabeth Hillman, along with some tempting plates from attendees. Favourite poems were shared and discussed, and various personal poetic contemplations of the season presented. As usual, the diversity of takes on the subject was notable: from celebrations of the natural splendour of summer solstice, to affirmations of the Christmas spirit, to acknowledgments of the shortcomings of some modern incarnations of the occasion. One response to our seasonal theme is included below.
We also welcomed new members Derek Recsei and Ian Evans. We look forward to enjoying more poetry from all our members in 2014, and wish all our supporters an inspired and inspiring year. Cheers!
Ho Ho Ho
Christmas again, thinks I
And soon
Needing some Dutch courage
Off I go
To the “Bar Humbug” down the road
The usual, Ebeneezer, says I
And so I gets a scroogedriver
Vodka and grapefruit
Just as I like Christmas
Tasteless and sour
Merry Christmas, I toasts
And Ebeneezer says
You’re barred
From “Bar Humbug” forever
Bah
Humbug
