History
Central Coast Poets Inc. (CCPI) had its origins in 1979 when a group of poets met as a branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW). These early meetings took place in members’ homes before graduating to the old sandstone hall of the Gosford Anglican Church at 3 Mann Street, Gosford, NSW.
In 1980, the group became known as the Central Coast Poetry Society and published their own poetry in anthology magazines from 1980 to 1987, and in book form from 1988 until 1998.
In 1999, the group evolved into Central Coast Poets Inc. This came about to fulfil the legal obligations required for the publication and sale of larger volumes of books largely as a result of the national Henry Kendall Poetry Award competitions which had been established previously by
the group.
CCPI has continued producing books from 2000 until today with the latest, Twenty Twenty, encompassing the group’s musings on all that the year of natural disasters and pandemic came to mean.
CCPI has gradually shifted the focus of its monthly meetings to a workshop format where members’ poems are constructively critiqued with reference to poetic form, genre, structure, language and imagery. An exercise activity is also offered where poets have a limited time to express, in poetry, their thoughts on a spontaneous topic.
